Our Mission is to develop and maintain a network of licensed clinicians who may provide early EMDR interventions as part of the front-line trauma response and recovery.
We are committed to strengthen and support Westchester County's communities after a natural or man-made disaster by offering referrals for clinician that specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy), an empirically supported treatment for post-traumatic stress. |
What is EMDR?
Developed by Francine Shapiro, PhD in the late 1980's, EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a cost-effective non-invasive evidence-based method of psychotherapy that facilitates adaptive information processing. It is an eight-phase treatment which comprehensively identifies and addresses experiences that have overwhelmed the brain's natural resilience or coping capacity, and have thereby generated traumatic symptoms and/or harmful coping strategies. Through EMDR therapy, patients are able to reprocess traumatic information until it is no longer psychologically disruptive. |
